The top three teams in the Eastern Conference, including last year's MLS Cup winners, will watch the rest of the postseason from the comfort of their homes. Inter Miami who finished top of the table got knocked out in shocking fashion to Atlanta United. Atalanta who are only 9th seed knocked out Messi’s and Suarez Inter Miami who where the top seed to win the cup.
LAFC
LAFC lost out last year in final losing too Columbus Crew however, it does not take away there rise since forming in 2018. Since joining Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2018, Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has quickly established itself as one of the league's most competitive teams. Known for their attacking play, passionate fan base, and high-profile players, LAFC has made a significant impact in the playoffs in just a few short years. LAFC won the MLS Cup in 2022 making them a team to fear for most clubs in the competition. With a big budget and some quality players they are one of the favourites to win.
Seattle Sounders
The Seattle Sounders have been one of MLS's most successful playoff teams, with four MLS Cup final appearances and two MLS Cup victories (2016, 2019). They have reached the playoffs in 13 of their 15 seasons (as of 2023) and hold a reputation for consistent postseason performance and competitiveness. Their passionate fan base and strong management have made them one of the league's model franchises.
Minnesota United FC
has gradually grown into a competitive team in Major League Soccer (MLS) since joining in 2017. Minnesota United’s strongest playoff run came in 2020, and while they've consistently been in the playoff mix, they’ve faced early exits since. The club continues to develop as a competitive Western Conference team aiming for deeper playoff success. They will hope to win there first MLS Cup this year however, they face a strong LA Galaxy side.

Atlanta United FC has had a notable playoff history in Major League Soccer (MLS) since their inaugural season in 2017. Atlanta United has made the playoffs five times in seven seasons, with their best performance being the 2018 MLS Cup victory. The club’s early success and passionate fan base have cemented its reputation as a competitive force in MLS playoffs. They have now qualified once again and after beating inter Miami they will have high hopes for their play off campaign.
Orlando City
Orlando City SC’s playoff history has been steadily improving since their debut in Major League Soccer in 2015. Although they initially struggled to make it to the postseason, they've become a more competitive force in recent years. Orlando City has made the playoffs four times since joining MLS, with their best performances reaching the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2020 and 2023. Under coach Óscar Pareja, they have found greater stability and competitiveness, securing playoff berths for four consecutive seasons (2020-2023) and winning their first trophy, the 2022 U.S. Open Cup.
New York City
New York City FC (NYCFC) has been a consistent playoff contender since their debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015. Known for their attacking play and passionate fan base, NYCFC quickly became a force in the Eastern Conference. NYCFC has consistently qualified for the playoffs, achieving their greatest success with their 2021 MLS Cup victory. They have a reputation as a competitive Eastern Conference team with a strong track record in the postseason. They face New York rivals in Red Bull and will hope to come out winners.
Red Bull New York
New York Red Bulls (NYRB) have had a notable history in Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs, marked by consistent participation and some close calls at winning the MLS Cup. Despite their consistent regular-season success, the Red Bulls have yet to capture an MLS Cup, with their playoff history often marked by missed opportunities in the critical rounds. This year may finally be there year, they will have to beat a strong New York City first however, they will hope they have enough quality to finally go all the way.
Overall, the MLS Cup should be a brilliant watch, all the teams have a fighting chance to walk away with the ultimate prize. Some teams with more experience and some teams are serial winners. It’s the ultimate test to see who comes out on top in America.
