Check out the key talking points before the Premier League kicks off this weekend.
Slott remians Liverpool's only new signing in post Klopp era.
Firstly, we dive into Liverpools new era under Slott. They have looked very impressive in the pre-season. Beating Manchester United 3-0 is certainly a stand out performance that has raised a few eyebrows. Liverpool are the only side in Europe that have not signed one player, many believe this is poor from the board but it displays trust in the squad they have and it gives the youth a very promising pathway into the senior squad. Liverpool will hope to challenge for the title again but realistically top 4 will be a very good season after such a big turn around.
Brighton continue push for Europe.
Brighton are a side who have always excelled in bringing youth into the Premier League and now they have appointed one of the youngest managers in Europe. Fabian Hurzleler was appointed this season after De Zerbi left for Marseille. Hurzeler was the manager of St Pauli, he got them promoted to the top division which sparked incredible celebrations. Brighton will look to push for Europe while playing some brilliant football. They are one of the best well run clubs in the league and they will hope the investment into Hurzleler will pay off.
Man United Signings Mature under new ownership.
Manchester United are always a talking point when it comes to football. Ten Hag will need a successful season, fans started to turn on the Dutch manager last season until they won the FA Cup. The victory glossed over a season that was very poor for the red side of Manchester. Top 4 is a must for side like United, under a new ownership they have made some very astute signings including Yorro and Zirkzee.
Arsenal and Man City will remain title rivals on from last season.
Arsenal, have had quiet summer, they obviously trust the squad to be able to challenge for the league. Last year, they came very close to winning the league, but once again they came short to Manchester City. Arteta has created a team that play excellent football and deliver results. Arsenal are just unlucky that they face a Manchester City side who are one of the best sides ever to grace the Premier League. Arsenal are the biggest challengers to the title, there is doubt they will be up there at the end of the season.
Chelsea sign fresh young talent.
Chelsea, well who haven’t they signed? They have got some of the best young talents in the world and if they haven’t got them now they probably will in the future. Chelsea’s future does look very bright, however the stability does not look promising after another manager change. Enzo Maresca has had a very promising start to management and winning the league with Leicester then moving to Chelsea. He will hope to have a successful season and achieve at least top 4.
Top 4 Villa aim to consolidate under Emery.
Aston Villa are another standout team, achieving top 4 last year was an incredible achievement. They have made some astute signings, they will hope to do the same this year. With Emery they are a force to be reckoned with, no team will want to face Aston Villa this year. They have lost Douglas Luiz but replaced him with Onana who has been excellent in the Premier League with Everton.
Ipswich maintain squad in their new Premier League era.
Ipswich Town, an incredible achievement to reach the Premier League and do not write them off on having a very good season. Under McKenna they are playing some unbelievable football and finished second in the Championship. If they can keep the manager and players they really do look like a team who could climb the table.
Southampton will provide entertainment.
Play-offs winners Southampton will hope to have a long stay in the Premier League. Under Russel Martin they play possession based football. It’s something that could very well work in the Premier League but also it could lead to conceding a lot of goals. You could guarantee some very good games when Southampton play because they will not change their style of play.
Can Man City make it a famous five titles in a row?
We can’t do a top 10 Premier League preview without mentioning the Premier League champions Manchester City. No doubt they are favourites once again, under Pep Guardiola they are the ultimate team. Arsenal put up a good fight last year, but City just always end up winning the title. There is no team better in the world than Manchester City in the final running; they just mean business and are serial winners.
Spurs hunt for consistency.
Spurs, the long wait for a trophy still goes on however, under Ange Postecouglou they have looked very promising. Playing attractive football and gaining good results will give the fans a lot of hope. This year, they will hope to achieve Champions League football again. Spurs will always provide entertaining games, they just need consistency in results. Once they gain the consistency they will be a team that nobody will want to face.
